Ceylon Estate Black Tea Organic

$7.00

BLACK TEA | MODERATE CAFFEINE | ORGANIC | SINGLE ESTATE

This one comes from a single estate in Sri Lanka and is organic and fair trade, both things that mean a lot to us. Being grown high in the mountains is what makes the cup so aromatic. You'll smell it before you pour, then be treated to a bright taste, fruity and herbal all at once. Ceylon has been famous a long time. This is why.

Sold in 1 oz quantities. Makes 6-10 cups of tea.

From Our Laguna Beach Tea Shop

We knew we wanted this one the moment we heard it came from a single family estate, was organic and fair trade. Knowing exactly where a tea comes from, and whose hands picked it, is worth something to us. A lot of our store customers have had an Assam but never a Ceylon, so we tell them the same thing every time: this one is less malty and more nuanced, and it goes down smoother. Great tea starts with the people growing it.

Another one of favorite traditional Indian black tea, that also comes from a family-owned estate is our Assam Estate Black Tea.

  • How to brew it hot

Use 1 teaspoon per 8 oz. Steep at 212°F for 3-5 minutes. A full boil gets the most out of the leaf.

  • How to make iced tea

Use 2 teaspoons per 8 oz. Steep at 212°F for 3-5 minutes, then pour over a full glass of ice. Double strength keeps the ice from watering it down.

  • How to cold brew

Use 1.5 teaspoons of loose leaf tea per 8 ounces of filtered water.
Steep in your fridge for 8 to 12 hours.
Strain out the leaves and enjoy!
A long cold steep gives you a smoother cup.

Beyond the Cup: Make Something Tasty with This Ceylon Estate Black Tea

Delish Tea-Infused Spuds

Serves 4 to 6

Ceylon Estate Black Organic tea gets boiled right into the cooking liquid for these potatoes, which are then tossed hot in a five-spice ginger butter.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 1/4 cup Ceylon Estate Black Organic tea
  • 2 lb small red new potatoes
  • 2 tbsp + 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 tbsp salted butter
  • 1/2 inch fresh ginger, cut into slices
  • 2 tsp Chinese Five-Spice Powder Organic
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Juice from a large lemon
  • 4 scallions, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Bring 4 cups water to a rolling boil over medium-high heat. Turn off the heat, sprinkle in the tea leaves, and steep for 3 minutes. Strain and return the brewed tea to the pan.
  2. Wash the potatoes and put them in the brewed tea. Sprinkle in 2 tbsp of the salt and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Partially cover the pan, lower the heat to medium-low, and cook until tender, about 12 to 15 minutes.
  3. As the potatoes cook, melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the ginger slices and stir-fry until light brown, 1 to 2 minutes. Turn off the heat and sprinkle in the five-spice powder and cayenne.
  4. Once the potatoes are ready, transfer them to a medium-size bowl. Scrape in the spiced butter, the remaining 1 tsp salt, lemon juice, and scallions. Toss the potatoes so they are all coated in the spicy butter and serve while still hot.
