What We tell customers about Turmeric for Inflammation

When people come in asking about turmeric for inflammation, this is the one we point them to. We tell them that this turmeric has been used as an anti-inflammatory for thousands of years in Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine, and Western herbalism values it the same way. Curcumin is the compound behind most of that reputation, the one researchers most often study for a healthy inflammatory response, joint comfort, and antioxidant activity*. We call this one therapeutic because it has an extremely high (7.3%) percentage of curcumin due being grown from an heirloom seed.

Customers usually want to know how it stacks up against two things. First, curcumin capsules: those isolate one compound and crank it up to 95%. But our therapeutic turmeric is the whole root, naturally rich at 7.3% curcumin but with all of turmeric's other compounds still intact and working together. We tell people that we'd rather you take it in food form than pill form for this synergistic reason.

Second, regular cooking turmeric, including our own Turmeric Powder Organic That one is a wonderful everyday spice for a curry or a pot of rice. This one is a naturally high 7.3% turmeric built for a daily anti-inflammation routine.

  • What to use it on

Curcumin doesn't absorb well on its own, so we always recommend three simple steps.

Freshly ground black pepper. A generous pinch adds piperine, which helps improve curcumin absorption. Fresh pepper makes a noticeable difference.

Gentle heat. We prefer stirring turmeric into hot tea, coffee, or golden milk rather than cold drinks.

A healthy fat. Curcumin is fat soluble, so about a quarter teaspoon of ghee or extra virgin olive oil helps your body absorb it more effectively.

Half a teaspoon a day is all we recommend. Small daily habits are far more valuable than large amounts once in a while.

  • How the pros use it

This turmeric is culinary grade, and you're welcome to cook with it. We simply reserve this heirloom batch for our morning ritual because we know exactly how much we're enjoying each day. Every morning we stir half a teaspoon into a hot cup of tea or coffee with a generous pinch of freshly ground black pepper and a little ghee or extra virgin olive oil. It's simple, it takes less than a minute, and it's a habit that's easy to stick with.

  • Who should use extra caution

If you only want turmeric to season the occasional curry or soup, you don't need this one, any good culinary turmeric (like our Turmeric Powder Organic) will do the job for less. This heirloom batch earns its place as a daily wellness ritual, not a spice-rack workhorse.

And because it's meant for daily, therapeutic-amount use, a few people should check with a healthcare provider first: turmeric in concentrated daily amounts can interact with blood thinners, affect blood sugar, and isn't recommended at therapeutic doses during pregnancy or nursing. If you're on prescription medications or managing a medical condition, it's a simple conversation worth having before you start.

Questions from our Laguna Beach Store customers about Turmeric for Inflammation

For most people, half a teaspoon a day is all we recommend. We prefer consistency over large occasional servings.

Yes. We recommend taking it with freshly ground black pepper, gentle heat, and a small amount of healthy fat such as ghee or extra virgin olive oil. Those three simple steps help your body make better use of curcumin.

Inflammation is the reason most people seek turmeric out. It's been used as an anti-inflammatory for thousands of years in Ayurveda and is valued the same way in Western herbalism, and curcumin is the compound most studied for supporting a healthy inflammatory response. That percentage tells you how much of it you're getting: many turmeric products never disclose their curcumin content at all, but ours is a heirloom variety tested at 7.3%, naturally rich in curcumin while still giving you the whole root rather than an isolated extract.
