SINGLE INGREDIENT | ORGANIC | NON-GMO | GROUND

Ground cumin is the warmth under a bowl of chili, the richness in hummus, the aroma that makes a taco smell like a taco. If you've only cooked with grocery store cumin, fresh organic will surprise you, because the difference is right there the moment you open it. One spoonful, and roasted vegetables, beans, rice, or a quick marinade taste like you fussed over them.

What We tell customers about Ground Cumin

If you've only ever cooked with the cumin from the grocery store, the first thing we tell people is that fresh really does taste different. Fresh ground cumin is warm and earthy, and if the jar in your cabinet doesn't smell like much anymore, that's your sign it's past its prime.

The other thing we tell people is not to just dump it in. Cumin gives you its best flavor when you cook it for fifteen or twenty seconds in a little oil first, so it wakes up before the rest of the dish goes in. Keep an eye on it, though, because it goes from fragrant to bitter fast.

And if you can't place why your chili, taco meat, or hummus tastes the way it does, it's almost always the cumin doing the quiet work underneath.

  • What to use it on

Stir it into chili, soups, or stews for warm, earthy depth.

Season taco meat, fajitas, or burrito fillings.

Mix it into marinades for chicken, lamb, beef, seafood, or roasted vegetables.

Blend it into homemade hummus, yogurt sauces, or vinaigrettes.

Sprinkle it over potatoes, cauliflower, carrots, or chickpeas before roasting.

  • How the pros use it

Ground cumin gives you its deepest flavor when you cook it briefly in a little oil before the rest of the ingredients go in. About fifteen to twenty seconds is all it takes to wake up the aroma. Watch it closely, because cumin burns quickly and turns bitter the moment it does.

  • What to pair it with
