Beyond the Cup: Make Something Tasty with This Yerba Mate Tea
The Laguna Green Mate Spritzer
Serves 1
A robust Yerba Mate concentrate meets muddled mint, lime, and agave, then gets topped with sparkling water for a bright, herbal spritzer.
Ingredients
- 2 tsp Organic Yerba Mate loose leaf
- 6 oz boiling filtered water (212°F)
- 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
- 1/2 oz agave nectar or simple syrup
- 4 oz chilled sparkling water or club soda
- Fresh mint leaves and a thin lime wheel, for garnish
Instructions
- Boil and Steep: Pour boiling water (212°F) directly over the Yerba Mate loose leaves, cover, and steep for 4 to 5 minutes to capture a rich, robust herbal extraction, then strain and chill the concentrate. The full boil is what draws out yerba mate's signature robust body.
- Muddle: In a tall glass, gently muddle the fresh mint leaves with the lime juice and agave nectar. Muddling releases the mint's aroma right into the base before the mate goes in.
- Assemble: Fill the glass with ice and add 2 to 3 ounces of the chilled mate concentrate.
- Top with Bubbles: Pour the sparkling water over the top, stir gently from the bottom, and garnish with a lime wheel and fresh mint. Stirring from the bottom lifts the muddled mint and lime through the drink without knocking out the fizz.
