From Our Laguna Beach Tea Shop

We keep a shelf in the shop that's there for the pure fun of it, and this is the tea we'd put in the middle of it. When someone comes in and says they want something to calm a sweet tooth, this is the one we reach for. The warm, buttery aroma does the introducing. What keeps people coming back is the balance, the cocoa nibs and apple against a smooth black tea. It's the most joyful shelf we've got.

  • How to brew it hot

Use 1 teaspoon per 8 oz. Steep at 212°F for 3-5 minutes. A full boil brings the butterscotch forward.

  • How to make iced tea

Use 2 teaspoons per 8 oz. Steep at 212°F for 3-5 minutes, then pour over a full glass of ice. Double strength keeps the ice from watering it down.

  • How to cold brew

Use 1.5 teaspoons of loose leaf tea per 8 ounces of filtered water.
Steep in your fridge for 8 to 12 hours.
Strain out the leaves and enjoy!
A long cold steep gives you a smoother cup.

Beyond the Cup: Make Something Tasty with This Butterscotch Black Tea

The Butterscotch Orchard Cooler

Serves 2

A creamy, cozy cooler that layers Butterscotch Black Tea with apple cider and a swirling pour of oat milk.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces Butterscotch Black Tea, brewed strong and chilled
  • 1 ounce apple cider (or unfiltered apple juice)
  • 1 ounce oat milk or cream (the richness of oat milk pairs beautifully with the cocoa nibs)
  • 1/2 ounce vanilla or caramel simple syrup (optional, depending on the sweetness of the tea)
  • Ice
  • Garnish: a light dusting of cocoa powder
  • Garnish: a thin apple slice

Instructions

  1. Brew the Concentrate: Steep 2 heaping teaspoons of Butterscotch Black Tea in 4 ounces of near-boiling water for 5 minutes. Strain the tea and let it cool completely.
  2. Combine: In a shaker, combine the chilled tea concentrate, apple cider, and your simple syrup.
  3. Shake: Add a handful of ice and shake well for 15 seconds. This helps the flavors meld and ensures the tea is perfectly chilled.
  4. Layer: Fill a glass with fresh ice. Pour the tea and apple mixture into the glass.
  5. The Creamy Finish: Gently pour the oat milk or cream over the back of a spoon into the drink. It will create a beautiful, swirling "storm" effect as it settles into the tea.
  6. Garnish: Dust the top with a pinch of cocoa powder and place an apple slice on the rim.
