    Butterfly pea flower has traditionally been used for its cooling and calming properties, to support healthy blood pressure and blood sugar regulation, and for nourishing hair and skin both internally as a tea and externally as a rinse.

  • How do I use this tea?

    Mild, lightly earthy, subtle floral note, almost no bitterness.

    Gentle enough that most people add lemon or honey, both of which complement it well. Lemon also triggers the color shift to violet.

    One teaspoon of whole dried flowers per eight ounces of water at 212 degrees, steeped five to seven minutes.

Butterfly Pea Coconut Rice

Serves 4 to 6

Jasmine rice steamed in a vivid blue butterfly pea infusion and creamy coconut milk — a striking, subtly sweet side for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Tea & Turmeric Butterfly Pea Flowers
  • 1¼ cups hot water
  • 1 cup jasmine rice
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp coconut oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place the butterfly pea flowers in a heatproof bowl and pour the hot water over them. Let steep for 15 to 20 minutes until the water turns a deep blue. Strain, pressing gently on the flowers, and discard the flowers.
  2. Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs mostly clear. Drain well.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the rice, butterfly pea flower infusion, coconut milk, salt, and coconut oil, if using. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook for 15 minutes, or until the liquid is absorbed.
  4. Remove from the heat and let the rice rest, covered, for 10 minutes. Fluff gently with a fork before serving.
