Get the Most from this Tea for Urinary Tract Wellness

Use it as a short reset, not a daily habit. This blend is built for occasional use when something feels off, that heavy, sluggish, not-quite-right feeling in the lower body. Three to five days is the typical window. If you are still reaching for it after a week, that is a signal to see a doctor rather than keep drinking tea.

Drink plenty of water alongside it. The diuretic herbs here work by encouraging your kidneys to filter more efficiently, and that process needs adequate plain water to work properly. Drink this tea and then keep drinking water through the day. Without it the flushing action can feel depleting rather than cleansing.

Have it earlier in the day. Finish your last cup by early afternoon. These are diuretic herbs and you do not want to be up at night.

Avoid bladder irritants while you are using it. Caffeine, alcohol and refined sugars irritate the urinary tract lining and work against the soothing effect of the marshmallow root in this blend. Give your lower body a break from them for the few days you are drinking this tea.

Keep the lower back and pelvic area warm. Cold causes tension in the pelvic floor and affects circulation in the region. A hot water bottle on the lower back while you drink your cup is old, simple advice that still works.

Strain it well. Shavegrass and the grassy herbs can leave fine bits behind. Pour through a fine strainer for a smoother cup.

If you notice fever, pain in your back or sides, or blood in the urine, stop drinking this tea and see a doctor immediately. Those are not symptoms for an herbal tea.

  • Why does this tea work?

Cornsilk: the soft fibers from the top of an ear of corn, traditionally used as a gentle diuretic to encourage healthy urine flow and soothe the urinary tract lining. Also has mild anti-inflammatory properties traditionally associated with calming irritation in the bladder.

Cleavers: a common garden weed that Western herbalists have used for centuries specifically for the urinary system and lymphatic drainage. Traditionally used to help the kidneys and bladder move excess fluid through while supporting the body's natural cleansing function.

Couchgrass: contains mucilaginous compounds that soothe the urinary tract lining while supporting urine flow. It is doing two things at once, flushing and soothing, which is why it pairs well with the more actively diuretic herbs in this blend.

Juniper berry: traditionally used as a urinary antiseptic and diuretic, with a long history in both Western and Ayurvedic medicine for urinary tract support. One of the stronger herbs in this blend, which is part of why this tea is built for short-term use rather than daily drinking.

Marshmallow root: a classic demulcent whose mucilage coats and calms irritated tissues in the urinary tract. The soothing counterweight to the diuretic herbs, so the cleansing action is gentle rather than harsh.

Shavegrass (horsetail): a silica-rich traditional diuretic long used for urinary and bladder support. Also the main reason this tea is meant for short-term use. Horsetail contains compounds that can affect potassium levels and interact with certain medications with extended daily use.

These statements are based on traditional herbal use and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

  • Is this the right one for me?

This tea has a specific job and a specific customer. If you feel that familiar heavy sluggish sensation in the lower body and you want a short term natural flush, this is exactly what you are looking for. Three to five days, plenty of water alongside it, and most people feel the difference.

If you are dealing with an actual UTI, kidney stones, or any diagnosed kidney or bladder condition, stop here and see your doctor. This is not a treatment and it is not appropriate to use alongside those conditions without medical supervision. This is one of the few teas in our lineup we will actively steer you away from if it is not right for your situation.

If what you want is something gentle you can drink every day with no cautions attached, our Bloat No More Tea is a better fit for daily digestive and abdominal comfort.

  • Who should skip this one?

This one carries more cautions than most of our teas, so read these before you brew it.Not recommended if you are pregnant, nursing, have a medical condition or are on medications without checking with your healthcare provider first.

Not for long-term use. This blend contains shavegrass (horsetail), which is not recommended for more than 4 to 6 weeks of continuous use. Extended use can deplete thiamine, a B vitamin your nervous system depends on, and affect your electrolyte balance. Use it for a short stretch when you need it, then stop.

Skip it entirely if you have kidney disease or any kidney condition. The diuretic herbs here put extra demand on the kidneys, and juniper berry in particular is contraindicated for kidney inflammation and kidney disease.

Do not drink it if you take diuretic medications or blood pressure medication without talking to your doctor first. Several herbs in this blend, cleavers, couchgrass, cornsilk and juniper among them, are themselves diuretics and can add to those medications and push the effect too far.

If you have a surgery scheduled, you should stop drinking this blend at least two weeks before your procedure and let your surgical team know what herbs you have been taking.

What Customers at Our Laguna Beach Store Ask About This Tea

This blend is built as a gentle, traditional flush. Cornsilk and cleavers lead, both long used in Western herbal medicine to encourage healthy urine flow. Couchgrass and shavegrass add their own traditional diuretic support. Juniper berry drives the flushing action. Marshmallow root soothes irritation along the way. These are diuretic herbs, so the tea gently increases how much water you move through. That is the traditional idea behind keeping the urinary system flowing and feeling clear.

Short-term support when something feels off, not a daily wellness sipper, and not a treatment for an infection or a kidney condition.

No, this one is meant for short-term, occasional use rather than a daily forever habit. It contains shavegrass (horsetail), which is not recommended for extended use because it can deplete thiamine, a B vitamin, over time, and the diuretic herbs can affect your electrolyte balance if you lean on them constantly. Use it as an occasional reset over a few days, drink plenty of water alongside it, and take breaks. If you find yourself wanting it daily, that is a conversation to have with your doctor.

Honestly, increasing your urine output is a big part of how it works, and that is by design. These are traditional diuretic herbs, so the cup gently encourages your body to move more water through, which is the old herbalist idea of flushing and keeping the system flowing. Cornsilk, cleavers and the others have long traditional use for exactly this, but the research is mostly small and historical, so think of it as gentle support and a flush, not a medical fix. Pairing it with plenty of plain water is what makes it feel like it is doing its job.

Not without checking with your doctor first. Several herbs in this blend are diuretics on their own, so combined with a prescription diuretic or blood pressure medication they can push the effect too far and throw off your fluid and electrolyte balance. The same caution applies if you have any kidney condition. When in doubt, clear it with your healthcare provider before you drink it, this is the tea where that step is genuinely important.
