Make it a daily habit, not a one-off. Triphala is a tonic. The people who see results are the ones that drink it every day and let it build over time.

Drink it twice a day using the same leaves with a three to four hours gap between cups. Use the same leaves for your second steep, same temperature, steep the leaves twice as long as the first steep. If you are sensitive to caffeine, do not have your second cup too late in the day. This blend has a trace amount of green tea.

Be patient. Give it time. Most people notice a difference around three weeks. For some it takes up to six weeks. Give it a full month before you judge it.

Your gut and your brain are in constant conversation, and a huge share of your serotonin is actually made in your gut, not your head. A daily digestive ritual is quietly mood and energy care too.

Drink it warm. Cold drinks dampen digestive fire in Ayurveda. Triphala works more effectively when drunk warm.

  • Why does this tea work?

Bibhitaki, amalaki and haritaki: the three fruits that make triphala, the word literally means three fruits in Sanskrit. Taken together in the traditional way, they are valued as a gentle daily tonic for digestion, regularity and whole-body balance.

Ginger: warms and stimulates the system, a classic Ayurvedic companion to triphala that helps digestion feel active rather than sluggish.

Lemon peel and lemongrass: bright, fresh notes that lift the earthy triphala base and make the cup genuinely pleasant.

Licorice: naturally sweet and long used to soothe the digestive tract and round out a blend.

    Stevia leaves:
a touch of natural, calorie-free sweetness to balance the traditional tartness of the fruits.

Green tea: we blend a literal pinch of green tea to energize the other ingredients, that's why we say this tea has trace caffeine

These statements are based on traditional herbal use and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

  • Is this the right one for me?

This is a great daily Ayurvedic tonic with thousands of years of history behind it. Like any daily tonic, be patient and consistent, drink daily for longer term benefits. It's not an overnight sensation.

Its closest cousin in the collection is our Optimal Gut Health, since both are long-term, gut-building teas rather than quick fixes. The simplest way to choose which is best between them: reach for Optimal Gut Health if you want the double fermented pu-erh, microbiome-focused route and don't mind caffeine, and reach for this Triphala if you want the traditional Ayurvedic, nearly caffeine-free made with the classic three-fruit formula. And if you need fast relief, our caffeine-free Bloat No More settles bloating and gas in the moment, and Digestive Aid uses gentle senna for short-term help when you feel backed up.

This Triphala is the one you come back to every day.

  • Who should skip this one?

Not recommended if you are pregnant, nursing, have a medical condition or are on medications without checking with your healthcare provider first.

A few specifics for this blend. Triphala is gentle, but in larger amounts it can have a loosening effect, so start with one cup and see how your body responds before making it a twice-daily habit. It contains licorice, which in large amounts or with prolonged daily use can raise blood pressure and lower potassium, so check with your doctor first if you have high blood pressure or heart or kidney concerns. It also has a trace of caffeine from the green tea, worth knowing if you are super caffeine sensitive, and triphala has been traditionally noted to gently lower blood sugar, so keep an eye on that if it applies to you.

If you have surgery coming up, stop two weeks before your procedure and let your surgical team know you have been taking triphala.

What Customers at Our Laguna Beach Store Ask About This Tea

Triphala is the most widely used formula in Ayurveda, and for good reason. It is built from three fruits, amalaki, bibhitaki and haritaki, traditionally taken together as a gentle daily tonic for the digestive system. What's most interesting is that Ayurveda has long recognized the gut-brain connection, which is why this is a whole-body vitality tea, not just for gut. But it all starts in the gut.

Triphala in powder or capsule form is often taken for constipation, but that is not what this tea is. As a tea it is much gentler. Some people find it loosens stools slightly, especially in the beginning, so start with one cup and see how your body responds. It is not a laxative tea and it is not meant to be taken for constipation. It is a daily digestive tonic, something you drink every day to keep your gut steady and balanced over time.

Yes, that is exactly how triphala is traditionally meant to be used, as a daily tonic taken consistently over time. It is the long-game tea, the one whose benefits show up through routine rather than in a single cup. The main things to keep in mind are the licorice note for anyone with blood pressure concerns and the trace of caffeine, both covered above. If you have an ongoing health condition or take medication, check with your doctor before making any herb a daily habit.

Twice a day with three to four hours between cups. If your main goal is easy, regular elimination, your second cup in the late afternoon works well. If you are sensitive to caffeine, do not have your second cup too late in the day. Drink it warm rather than cold. Warmth supports digestion in the Ayurvedic view and triphala sits more smoothly that way.
